Kitty Drama

The Bus is not usually a very high maintenance cat, but the last couple of days have been really scary!

Over the weekend, I noticed he wasn't eating very regularly, and he had a couple of other symptoms that he'd probably prefer that I didn't reveal to his public. Suffice to say, it was enough to necessitate a call to the vet yesterday. They told me I needed to bring him in right away. I was hoping we'd go home with a prescription for a UTI and call it a day.

Instead, we spent over 2 hours in the clinic while they poked and prodded him and tested his blood. And he didn't even bite anyone. This was a horrible ordeal because each possible diagnosis was scarier than the last. He was tested for diabetes, liver failure, kidney failure, Hepatic Lipidosis...By 6pm we found out he was anemic and had a slightly positive test for feline leukimia, and his blood was sent to an outside lab for more tests. We spent yesterday evening sitting outside in the yard with the chickens drinking wine, watching Gilmore Girls and drinking wine, and staying up much too late because I was too worried to sleep and drank too much wine.

This morning we finally got the call from the vet. After 3 negative tests they've confirmed the Bus is leukemia free. BIG sigh of relief. But we still don't know exactly what's wrong. He's going to go on some antibiotics and hopefully he just has an infection and hates the heatwave, and he'll be back to his cranky old self in a week or so. Please think good thoughts for the Bus and keep your fingers crossed. He's a good cat. Thank you.

  1. Oh poor little Bus. I'm so sorry he had to go through all of that, but I'm glad the tests came back good. K.C. and I are sending speedy recovery thoughts to him!
