Sucks when plant experiments go wrong.<br /><br />Anyway, I'm hardly an expert, but I wonder if there might be *too* much water involved -- seems like all that water running down the stem has given it a kind of an unhealthy slimy look (at least in the photo).<br /><br />If the soil (or whatever's in that crazy bag) isn't retaining water, there are amendments you can pick up pretty cheap at garden stores that soak it up ... probably better than a sponge.<br /><br />Either way, I'm gonna speculate "too much water".
